First Canon 7D Test Video

This is the first test video I made with the 7D. It's at 3200 ISO using the EF 28-90mm F/4-5.6 at 90mm F/5.6. Enjoy! Music clip is Yes I Am by pg.lost.

If you haven't already seen it, check out my first impressions and unboxing pictures. ISO tests to come later this week with the 24-105mm F/4L IS.

Canon 7D Samples and Frame Rate Test

276/365 - October 3, 2009 - 7D = 8fps

So today was a really drab and rainy day. Not only did I not get my 24-105mm because the postman didn't knock on the door this morning (see previous post), but it rained and rained. Here are a few samples from the camera. I will do an ISO elevator test once I get the 24-105mm next week.

The first frame in the frame rate test above is my finger coming off the start button. I tried to press the shutter down and release my finger at the same time. It looks like the camera can easily do 8fps at the full 18 megapixels.

All of these sample images were taken with the Canon EF 28-90mm F/4-5.6 (non USM version).

  1. ISO 100
  2. ISO 3200
  3. ISO 800
  4. ISO 100
  5. ISO 100
  6. ISO 6400 (testing Ai Servo, continuous AF

Canon 7D is in the House! (Unboxing Pics and Initial Thoughts)

7D

Today, I received my Canon EOS 7D from Adorama. Props to them for shipping it so quickly and having it in my hands before the weekend! With all the buzz with this camera and the weeklong Jewish holiday, I honestly did not think I would receive it for another couple of weeks, which was just fine with me. But after playing with it for a couple hours, it's pretty neat and I'm glad I have it. The only thing is, I don't have a lens of my own yet to put on it. Luckily, my friend Mark was kind enough to let me borrow an extra lens he had (an EF 28-90mm F/4-5.6. I should have my 24-105mm F/4L IS lens tomorrow. ;)

edit: USPS "attempted" delivery this morning but did not bother knocking on the door or ringing the door bell. So obviously I didn't even know it came and couldn't sign for it. Guess I'll have to line up Monday morning :\.

Android Donut Now Released and Ready for Consumption

Today, the good folks at Google Android have released the long awaited version 1.6, codenamed "Donut." This tasty pastry brings along some neat additions to Cupcake (version 1.5).

New things include:

  • CDMA Support (Hello Hero for Sprint!)
  • Quick search box for searching contacts, the phone, and the internet (think of it as Windows Vista/7's start menu search + google.
  • Text to Speech API for many langauges (available from the Android Market)
  • New Android Market GUI
  • Support for multiple screen sizes and resolutions

So if you're rocking a T-Mobile device, expec the update to be pushed OTA (over the air) soon (G1's today and MyTouch's tomorrow, why them first?). If you are running Cyanogen or another mod, you'll likely have many of the 1.6 OS features since the SDK has been out for a little bit. To get the full update, you'll have to wait or unroot your rooted phone.

Read more about 1.6 at Android.com

I will update this post when I have received and applied the update.

UPDATE #1: It's 10/3, two days, later and T-Mobile still has not pushed the update. Going to Settings > About Phone > System updates does nothing.

Update #2: 10/6. Got the update early this morning. Took less than 10 minutes to install. With the new update, everything is faster now!

Wii Price Drop, How Low Can It Go?

Aparently pretty low. Nintendo recently dropped the price on the Wii to $199, but Amazon will make the deal even sweeter with a $25 gift card. You heard right, that's another 12.5% off! All you have to do is order now from Amazon.com before October 3.
